Dakshinavarti is one of the items for puja used by the Hindus in India and also in other parts of the world to accomplish the worship of the Hindu deities. Dakshinavarti or Dakshinavarti Sankha is actually a sea conch which opens on the right side. Sea shells of differentkinds are available in the market at a very huge quantity but these sea shells open on the left side. It is very rare to find sea shells which open on the right side. In the Indian language Dakshina means the south and from the perspective of the person who holds the conch it means the right side. It is very rare that a devotee is worshiping the deities blowing a conch which opens on the right side. Dakshinavarti Sankha also has other names like Laxmi Sankha and Valampuri Sankha.
